Q&A with Muniba Rafiq, Engineering Technician at Waysafe

We sat down with Muniba Rafiq, the new Engineer at Waysafe, to chat about what brought her to the role and what she’s learned so far.

Q1: Tell us a little about yourself and what drew you to this role at Waysafe. What was your previous experience?

A: I’m a motivated and hands-on person who enjoys problem-solving and learning new skills. I’ve always liked working with people and take pride in being approachable and easy to work with, whether that’s with colleagues or customers. I was drawn to this role because I wanted something practical where I could build on my skills, learn from experienced engineers, and actually see the results of my work. Waysafe stood out to me as a place where I could grow both personally and professionally while working on innovative products.

Q2: As someone who is new to the business, what do you think sets Waysafe apart from its competitors?

A: The team environment really stood out to me straight away. From my interview, it was clear that people genuinely work together and support each other, which isn’t always the case in engineering roles. There’s a positive atmosphere here and everyone’s encouraged to get involved and share ideas, which makes it a great place to learn and grow.

Q3: As an Engineer, which benchtop enclosure do you think best represents what Waysafe can do, and why?

A: I’d say the SE Series. It’s incredibly versatile and can be adapted to suit almost any requirement. That flexibility really reflects what Waysafe is about — creating enclosures that are tailored to the customer rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. It shows how far the company can go to meet different specifications.

Q4: What are three things you’ve learned about Waysafe since starting, and what’s your favourite part of the day?

A: I’ve learned what testing cabinets are used for, how they’re customised, and how much detail goes into building them — from profiles and sizing to cutting and machining. My favourite part of the day is anything hands-on in the workshop. That’s where I feel most engaged and can really enjoy what I’m doing.

Q5: Lastly, what do you enjoy most about your role as an Engineer, and what are you looking forward to in the future at Waysafe?

A: I enjoy the practical side of the job and being able to build cabinets from scratch, working through the full process from start to finish. I’m really looking forward to developing my skills further, taking on more responsibility, and continuing to grow with the company.
